These lesson plans look at the complex roles of gender and intersectionality through Asian American history.
IHI is proud to offer lesson plans that highlight gender and intersectionality through Asian American history. IMMIGRANT WOMEN DO IT ALL: INFLUENCE OF PICTURE BRIDES

  1. Understand how historical events (including government, media and society influences) impacted how Asian American families were formed and survived
  2. Understand how Asian American immigrant women transformed the economic responsibilities and roles mothers, grandmothers and aunties play in society
  3. Reflect on their own identity and how traditional definitions of gender roles have influenced them

  1. Understand how historical events (including government, media and society influences) impacted how Asian American masculinity has been defined in the U.S. 
  2. Understand how Asian American men used art to reflect on and remember their struggles and redefine Asian American masculinity
  3. Reflect on their own identity and how traditional definitions of masculinity and femininity have influenced them

  1. Explore various stereotypes of Asian women and their continued impact.
  2. Apply primary source analysis skills in examining American immigration policy from 1875 to 1987.
  3. Understand how immigration policy and media representation work in tandem to create and perpetuate stereotypes of Asian women.
