See our parent leaders Gigi Belen and Yukiyo Iida share their stories in the videos to the right. For Gigi and Yukiyo, who both grew up struggling to understand their Asian American identities in immigrant households that had no access to their own histories in this country, IHI's work is critical for supporting immigrant families like their own.
At Immigrant History Initiative, we aim to transform the way communities learn about race, migration and justice. We fill in the blank white spaces in school textbooks where the histories of immigrant communities have been systemically erased and whitewashed. We amplify the voices of the communities of color who have been silenced, forgotten, or co-opted. In short, we work to create a better future by teaching people about our past. For our second official fundraiser, we are aiming to raise $25,000 by the end of the year to continue our important work! We have been growing IHI on a shoestring budget using individual donations like yours. These fundraisers are a critical part of how IHI can keep creating free resources and programs. With your help last year, we have been able to connect with thousands across the U.S. and globally through our educational resources and community outreach efforts. |
Hear our co-founders, Kathy & Julia, talk about why they started the Immigrant History Initiative and the importance of their work.

In 2021, we have:
With demand for our work growing and many new projects planned for this upcoming year, we are very excited about the future of IHI! In 2022, we plan to roll out a pilot program in Asian American community centers and language schools to bring our curriculum directly to AAPI parents and children in need of identity development and advocacy support. The funds raised will go toward hiring staff to help us launch the program.
Learning history means understanding where we came from and how we got here, and it also helps us invent better ways of moving forward. Through anti-racist curriculum development and community education programs, Immigrant History Initiative is trying to build the world we deserve, one step at a time. To do that, we need your help.
IHI tackles difficult topics and creates resources to meet oft-ignored needs. Your tax-deductible donation will help us sustain our work and transform the lives of thousands more. Thank you for giving.
