Previous Postings:

The Immigrant History Initiative seeks undergraduate student volunteers for
Fall/Winter 2020 to work on social media campaigns relating to anti-racism, ethnic studies, and immigrant histories.

Time Commitment:
Approximately 3-5 hours each week. Flexibility as needed.

Qualifications:
This position is open to undergraduate students of diverse backgrounds interested in working on the cutting edge of nonprofit anti-racism work by developing and sharing social media content with a critical race and social justice lens. While this is a remote position, volunteers will work closely with IHI leadership on outward-facing social media initiatives focused on community outreach and education. Applicants should possess good research, writing, and interpersonal skills and have a strong commitment to racial and social justice. Experience in social media management is a strong asset.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Conduct research on immigration, U.S. foreign policy, and American history for the purpose of drafting original social media content
  • Design social media posts that break down difficult topics on race and immigration for a wide audience
  • Develop social media strategies to increase engagement and reach
  • Curate IHI’s “follow” list and share relevant posts
  • Work collaboratively on a team
  • Bring dedication to IHI’s mission of using critical consciousness and history education to combat contemporary xenophobia, racism, and white supremacy

This is an entirely remote position. The position is unpaid; however, we will work with students who seek to obtain school credit or outside funding.

To Apply:
Send a brief statement of interest (2-3 paragraphs) and resume to staff@immigranthistory.org with the subject heading “Social Media Volunteer.” If available, please send links to social media posts/campaigns you have created in the past. Applications will be considered until September 25, 2020.
