The Immigrant History Initiative seeks undergraduate student volunteers for Fall/Winter 2020 to work on social media campaigns relating to anti-racism, ethnic studies, and immigrant histories.
Time Commitment:
Approximately 3-5 hours each week. Flexibility as needed.
Qualifications:
This position is open to undergraduate students of diverse backgrounds interested in working on the cutting edge of nonprofit anti-racism work by developing and sharing social media content with a critical race and social justice lens. While this is a remote position, volunteers will work closely with IHI leadership on outward-facing social media initiatives focused on community outreach and education. Applicants should possess good research, writing, and interpersonal skills and have a strong commitment to racial and social justice. Experience in social media management is a strong asset.

This is an entirely remote position. The position is unpaid; however, we will work with students who seek to obtain school credit or outside funding.

- Conduct research on immigration, U.S. foreign policy, and American history for the purpose of drafting original social media content
- Design social media posts that break down difficult topics on race and immigration for a wide audience
- Develop social media strategies to increase engagement and reach
- Curate IHI’s “follow” list and share relevant posts
- Work collaboratively on a team
- Bring dedication to IHI’s mission of using critical consciousness and history education to combat contemporary xenophobia, racism, and white supremacy
